Fishkill Baptist Nursery School: Programs

Mommy & Me Playgroup

Mommy & Me playgroup meets on Mondays from 9:30 – 11:00am for a time of play, simple arts and crafts, music, snack, and social/play time at Fishkill Baptist Nursery School. We welcome children who are infants up to three years old. It’s also a great way to meet other local moms and their children! Even though it’s called “Mommy & Me”, grandparents or other caregivers are welcome to attend with their little ones. Participation costs just $5 per week to cover the cost of snack and craft materials, with no weekly commitment required.

Threes Groups

Threes groups meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 – 11:30am. To keep ratios low and maximize learning while taking into account the developmental needs of our youngest students, classes have two teachers with a maximum of 12 students. This is the best ratio in the area! Curriculum focuses on learning readiness skills such as attention to task, group participation, social skills, early academics, and turn-taking. A structured routine and creative, hands-on activities promote language and social development.

Children must be three years old by December 1st. Younger children may be accepted once they reach their third birthday, space permitting, if they demonstrate the necessary readiness skills to join the class.  Children must be toilet trained.

Fours Groups

Fours groups meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00 – 11:30am at Fishkill Baptist Nursery School. Each class has two teachers with a maximum of 16 students to promote a healthy and optimal learning environment. Curriculum includes “Letter of the Week”, in which each letter is taught individually and recognition, writing, and phonemic awareness is incorporated.  Field trips to a library, firehouse, apple orchard, and others are a fun part of the school year, along with special classroom visitors such as the dentist. Chapel takes place two to three times per month, where the children learn how much God loves them, that He made them and the world around them, and that they are precious to Him.

Children must be four years old by December 1st. Younger children may be accepted once they reach their fourth birthday, space permitting, if they demonstrate the necessary readiness skills to join the class.

The Bridge Program

The Bridge Program meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 – 11:55 am at Fishkill Baptist Nursery School. It is comprised of children who have fall or early winter birthdays and make the cutoff for kindergarten, but who could benefit from a “bonus year” to achieve academic and social goals.  Studies show that children who are the youngest in their kindergarten class often lack the maturity and ability to work independently that rising kindergarten standards require. Our program gives younger fives a boost that makes all the difference! The Bridge incorporates the acclaimed “Handwriting Without Tears©” program to teach handwriting in a fun, multi-sensory approach. Phonemic awareness and other pre-reading skills are also emphasized. Field trips to a local vet, apple orchard, library, farm, and firehouse are all invaluable experiences for the students.

Our program also incorporates the following elements to ensure a well-rounded, exciting curriculum for our students:

~ field trips~ cooking~ secure, new playground

~ free play~ learning centers~ Christmas program

~ Chapel~ journaling~ music

~storytelling~ arts & crafts~show & tell

Parents also have the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher for conferences to discuss his or her development, strengths, and needs along the way. We strive to be your partner in your child’s education.
